JVP ACTION Alert: Tell your reps not to support AIPAC
Written by Jewish Voice for Peace
Friday, 19 March 2010
AIPAC's annual policy conference takes place next week, and thousands of members will be lobbying members of Congress, telling them that the Obama administration is too hard on Israel. Why? Because the US dares to insist on a settlement freeze.

Now is the time to demand full accountability, ask the US to withhold its aid to Israel until Israel agrees to abide by international law including ending settlement construction and lifting the blockade on Gaza. Only through accountability will we achieve a lasting peace.

If you are in the U.S., use this link to send a message to Congress:

International friends, please use this link to send a message to President Obama:

Thank you so much for joining me! Together we can make a difference.

Israel's East Jerusalem Settlment Plans
Written by Foundation for Middle East Peace
Thursday, 18 March 2010
Israel's Settlment Plans in East JerusalemThis map is illustrating reported Israeli plans, as of November 2009, to expand settlements in East Jerusalem by 14,123 housing units by 2015 and 2020.  (The map does not include the 1600 new units to be built in the settlement of Ramat Shlomo announced during the recent visit of Vice President Biden.)
The map also shows existing Israeli settlements built since Israel’s occupation of East Jerusalem in 1967 within the expanded boundaries Israel drew to increase the area of East Jerusalem by 72 square kilometers.

As of 2007 the Jewish settler population of East Jerusalem was 189,708  The Palestinian population was over 200,000.

If completed the 14,123 planned new units reported in November and the recently announced 1600 new units for Ramat Shlomo would potentially house, at an estimated occupancy of 8 persons per unit, about 125,780 settlers by 2020.

The United States regards all territory taken by Israel in the 1967 war as "occupied," including East Jerusalem.  The U.S. does not recognize these areas as part of Israel, and has, like the rest of the world, always opposed settlements and believes that the final status of East Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights must be resolved through negotiations.

Intolerant: 46% of Israeli high-schoolers don't want equality for Arabs
Written by Yaheli Moran Zelikovich

Poll: 46% of Israeli high-schoolers don't want equality for Arabs

Some 81% of religious students said they would refuse to evacuate settlements, versus 36% of secular counterparts. Every second student is opposed to granting right to vote to Arabs, and 32% don't want Arab friends

Racism and refusal to evacuate alongside support for a democratic system of government – these are the jumbled sentiment of Israel's high school students, according to a recent poll.

They support a democratic form of government, but more than half of them believe that Arabs should not be allowed to vote in Knesset elections. One out of every six students would not want to study in the same class with an Ethiopian or an immigrant from the former Soviet Union, and 21% of them think that "Death to Arabs" is a legitimate expression.

Biden to Bibi: You are endangering us
Written by Philip Weiss
Thursday, 11 March 2010

The Netanyahu insult to Joe Biden is the greatest thing that ever happened. It has woken a lot of people up, maybe including Joe Biden, who is streetsmart, and will allow the mainstream press in the US to finally question the special relationship and what it is doing to the American interest. You say I’m smoking something. Here is Laura Rozen at Politico:

People who heard what Biden said [to Netanyahu behind closed doors] were stunned. “This is starting to get dangerous for us,” Biden castigated his interlocutors. “What you’re doing here undermines the security of our troops who are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. That endangers us and it endangers regional peace.”

The vice president told his Israeli hosts that since many people in the Muslim world perceived a connection between Israel’s actions and US policy, any decision about construction that undermines Palestinian rights in East Jerusalem could have an impact on the personal safety of American troops fighting against Islamic terrorism.

Fox News gets the story here: Biden trip is filled with snubs, cold shoulders and mishaps. Foxman likens Biden to Mearsheimer and Walt. Exactly. Mearsheimer and Walt were right. This is not in our interest to be supporting ethnic cleansing!
